The concept of this design derived from the iconic
font from the “The Oregonian” newspaper. The phrase “The Originals” is a reference to the original people here in, what is now known as, the state of Oregon. Before Oregon was a state, and before Portland was a city, there were indigenous people here. My father’s side of the family throughout thousands of years, thrived off of the Columbia River and the salmon that swam through it, as a staple food. This concept pays homage to this. It can also be interpreted as for those that are born and raised here in Oregon. We’re completely fine with that too. At the end of the day, it’s about finding common bonds and respecting our differences.
